    this is more a Finland thing - stores are shut on public holidays.

    Wait for mid-summer, everything is shut appart from a couple of bars in downtown helsinki!

    Xmas is understandable and expected. I'm just surprised by a public holiday that falls on a Saturday not observed on a Monday. Plus I needed to get some important shopping done before Monday.

    Don't worry, quite many shops are open tomorrow as it's November and Sunday openings are allowed.

    Yep, I'm surprised too. What's surprising is that on Sundays the shops are open until 9pm!

    one of those things you grow to like about finland - that the holidays are taken on the day they fall, not the nearest monday. Can break the week up nicely
